Plot summary
David is a young musician of the Tribe of Judah who keeps his father Jesse's sheep in Bethlehem. After he drives off a lion stalking the flock, the prophet Samuel pours oil on him and names him Israel's future king. Palace guards bring him to Gibeah, where his lyre playing eases King Saul, troubled because God has rejected him as king. The Philistine army under King Achish then arrives, and its champion Goliath, a giant nine feet tall, challenges Saul and his son Jonathan to send out a fighter. Jesse sends David to the camp with supplies, and his mother Nitzevet urges him on. Trusting God, David decides to answer the giant himself, though Saul's armor hangs far too large on him.

- Slingshot Productions ended its distribution deal with Angel Studios in October 2024 over alleged contract breaches, then sued Angel in March 2025 claiming a "hostile takeover" and hunted for a new distributor.
- David's opening weekend set a record for the biggest debut by an animated biblical film, beating the previous holder The King of Kings, which had taken $19.4 million for Angel Studios in 2025.
- Researching the film, the production team traveled to Israel and bought a 3000-year-old juglet used for decanting oil, hiked the Valley of Elah battlefield area, and used drone footage of Wadi Qilt to create a sense of scale and space.
