Plot summary
Eddie Garrick works as a social worker and has little faith in the holidays, a cynicism that traces back to a childhood Christmas when a mall Santa he had trusted with a private request about his parents instead tried to burgle the family home. He is separated from his wife Allison; they share a nine-year-old daughter, Charlotte. On Christmas Eve, while Allison finishes her shopping, Eddie takes Charlotte along to feed a neighbor's cat and runs into Nick, a man in a red suit who insists he is the real Santa and who keeps watching for three men trailing him. Thinking Nick is unwell, Eddie drives him to a hospital, Charlotte coming too, and Nick tells the pair things about themselves that leave Charlotte convinced.
