Plot summary
Dakota Rose rides for a trick riding group called the Sweethearts of the Rodeo and hopes to become a champion trick rider like others in her family. She learns that she was adopted at birth, which makes her question herself and where she belongs in the family legacy. On a break from the team she stays at the ranch of her grandfather, the rodeo legend Austin Rose. There she secretly sets out to learn the truth about her adoption and to meet her birth parents. The team's final competition, against the Lone Star trick riding team, is ahead, and Dakota trains with Austin to be ready to rejoin the Sweethearts.

- The film was to be shot in Texas, but producer Ben Feingold moved the production to Louisiana just weeks before filming was to start to take advantage of tax credit incentives offered by the state; much of the shoot took place in the town of Keachi.
- Haley Ramm, who plays Dakota Rose, had horse-riding experience but was allowed only limited horse-tricks for fear she would be hurt, so most of the film's riding stunts were performed by the Texas-based all-female trick-riding group The Dynamite Dames.
