Plot summary
In Atlanta, fifteen-year-old Cyrus DeBarge writes rap lyrics under the name Truth, keeping them from his father, Pastor Jacob, who preaches against hip-hop. Cyrus also works nights as a busboy at a club called Off the Street. Roxie Andrews, a childhood friend who has become a singing star, is at the club for a songwriting contest backed by her label. Roxie picks Truth's song as the winner, but the photo Cyrus sent shows him with his best friend, Kris McDuffy, so she believes Kris wrote it.
