Plot summary
In 2257, miners work the Moon under contracts of twenty years before a shuttle carries them to a colony on another planet, Omega. Caleb Channing's father, Michael, has died in a mining accident. Caleb is under eighteen with no relatives left on the Moon, so the contract exempts him from the remaining years, and he may make the trip. He would rather stay, but the transport leaves in three days. Michael had left him a map showing a crater he meant to visit. Caleb, his best friend Dylan, Borney and Marcus decide to steal a lunar rover and drive out to it. Dylan brings in Addison Weaver, a scientist's daughter from Earth, for the passcodes that open the way off the base, and she joins them on the condition that she comes along.
