Plot summary
Andric, a scientist at Craine Systems, builds A-X-L, a robotic dog meant to help and guard soldiers, with military funding behind the project. The machine runs on advanced artificial intelligence and its code name stands for Attack, exploration, Logistics. When a trial goes wrong, the damaged robot hides alone in the desert, where Miles Hill, a teenage outsider and motorbike racer abandoned by Sam Fontaine after a stunt, comes across it. The robot pairs with him, and Miles then works with Sara Reyes, who is smart and resourceful, to keep his new companion out of the hands of the people who built it.

- A-X-L reached theaters even though Global Road Entertainment, the company that financed and produced it, had been taken over by its lenders.
- A-X-L grew out of a proof-of-concept short film called Miles, written and directed by Oliver Daly, who funded it through a Kickstarter campaign that began in 2014 and drew 190 backers.
