Biography

Dann Florek is an American actor and director who was born in Flat Rock, Michigan, studied math and physics at Eastern Michigan University without graduating, and moved to New York City to work in the theater. In the 1980s he took supporting parts in Sweet Liberty (1986), Angel Heart (1987) and Moon Over Parador (1988), and he played Mr. Slate in The Flintstones (1994). On television he was Dave Meyer in 22 episodes of L.A. Law starting in 1988, with guest spots on Roseanne and a recurring part on Smart Guy. He is best known for playing Captain Donald Cragen on Law & Order from 1990 and then on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit from 1999; he was written out of that series in its 15th season but came back to the character later, and he also directed episodes of Law & Order.
