Selenis Leyva
Biography
Selenis Leyva is an American actress from The Bronx who began her career in Off-Broadway productions. Her professional debut came in a 1995 staging of Simpson Street, and she later appeared in New World Stages' Celia. On television she co-starred in the Nickelodeon sitcom Taina and had a recurring role as Detective Mariluz Rivera on Law and Order from 2004 to 2006, also guest-starring on The Sopranos and The Good Wife. She became widely known for playing Gloria Mendoza, a leader in the jail, on Orange Is the New Black, the Netflix comedy-drama, from 2013 to 2019, earning three Screen Actors Guild Awards for ensemble work and an ALMA Award in 2014. Her film credits include Custody (2016), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Breaking (2022) and Creed III (2023). She also starred in the series Diary of a Future President and Lopez vs Lopez.
