Cold Fish (2010) on Netflix

Plot summary

Mitsuko is Nobuyuki Syamoto's teenage daughter from his first marriage, and she is rude and violent toward him and toward Taeko, her stepmother, who wonders whether she is the cause of the girl's troubles. The family lives in Shizuoka, where Nobuyuki runs a small tropical fish shop, and the household is an unhappy one. When Mitsuko is caught taking goods from a supermarket, the manager threatens to call the police. A man named Yukio Murata, exuberant and eccentric, calms the manager and invites the family to his own larger fish shop, where they meet his wife Aiko. Murata offers Mitsuko a job and a room, and raises the idea of a partnership between the two men. Nobuyuki is reluctant, but Taeko urges him to accept, and Murata draws him in with costly fish and new clients.
