Plot summary
In Richmond, California, Ken Carter takes over the basketball team at his old high school, the Oilers. The players are undisciplined and disrespectful, so Carter writes contracts that require them to sit in front rows, maintain a 2.3 GPA, and submit progress reports. Some refuse and walk out, including Timo Cruz. Principal Garrison doubts they can meet these demands. Carter's son, Damien, transfers from a private school and joins. Cruz asks to return and must complete tough exercises; his teammates help him when he struggles. The Oilers improve and become undefeated. After a holiday tournament, they slip out to a party, and Carter breaks it up. He later learns several players are failing classes and locks the gym, ordering them to study until they satisfy the contract.
