Plot summary
Anna Christina is twenty years old and lives in a Greek village under Ottoman rule. As rebellion stirs, she falls in love with Colonel Tariq, an officer in the Turkish army who has begun to question his countrymen's brutal methods of governing. Years before, when she was a child, she was in his power on a cliff-top and he let her live. Their romance brings trouble to her family and her village. Tariq is caught between the army he serves and the woman he wants to protect, while Anna Christina is caught between her feelings and the cause her countrymen are taking up.
