Plot summary
Alberto Scorfano writes back to his best friend Luca, who is studying in Genova alongside Giulia, and tells him about his new life in Portorosso. The townspeople have accepted Alberto, and he no longer hides that he is a sea monster. He works at the town fishery next to Giulia's father, Massimo, an imposing, tattooed fisherman with one arm who rarely speaks. Massimo talks to him mostly to warn him not to take their fishing boat out without supervision. Alberto is eager for the older man's approval and worries that a mistake will cost him the job, so he keeps looking for ways to win his favor.
