Plot summary
Sixteen years ago Joe flees from police with his wife and son in the car. He loses control on a mountain road, and Chrystal is left with a broken neck. The boy is never found at the wreck or in the countryside around it. Joe is sentenced to sixteen years for fleeing and for the injuries he caused. Now he is out and back in Arkansas, and Chrystal, who never divorced him, is unsure whether to take him in again. He says he wants to live differently now and make up for the past. Snake, a figure from Joe's old life, invites him into an illegal drug operation.
