Plot summary
Sarah, in the last stage of AIDS, is David's first patient. He bathes and dresses her, cooks her meals and turns visiting relatives away when she needs rest, and after she dies he washes and dresses her one more time. He attends her funeral and declines when her niece asks to speak about her aunt. Then he is assigned to John, an elderly architect weakened by a stroke. David buys books on architecture and tells a bookstore clerk he is an architect himself, and he lets John watch pornographic films on a laptop. Between patients he keeps up with Nadia, a young woman he follows and looks up online.
