Plot summary
In 1982 Greenwich Village, Harry Levine writes and gets by on a doorman's wages. When the job ends, he goes to the apartment of Jake Manheim, an arts photographer he has known for years, to ask about a debt Jake has owed him a long time. Jake says he does not have the money, so the two of them settle in to talk about the art they make, the people they have loved, and the direction their lives are taking. Harry has finished a manuscript, semi-fiction drawn from their friendship, and he asks Jake to read it and tell him what he thinks.
