Plot summary
Ranganayaki leads a wealthy family beset by misfortunes. Her elder daughter eloped and died with her husband in a plane crash; a fire broke out at the family factory, and Divya, one of her four daughters, was paralyzed in a car accident, so her engagement is postponed. Ranganayaki's brothers and their families share her household. The astrologer Guruji, whom she consults, says the whole family must pray at their ancestral temple in Vettaiyapuram. They travel there and lease the Vettaiyapuram Palace for forty-eight days, moving in despite a warning to stay out of its southern part.

- Kangana Ranaut met director P. Vasu to discuss another film and, learning that no one had yet been cast as Chandramukhi, asked him for the role herself. She said it was the first time she had ever asked for a part rather than being approached for one.
- Chandramukhi 2 was postponed from 15 September 2023 to 28 September after 450 shots went missing during post-production work. The missing footage was found four days later.
