Plot summary
Karthik is lethargic by nature and completes his B.E. subjects after almost five years. He wants to work as a chef and run a restaurant, but his father offers no support. Shruthi is focused and hardworking, determined to go to Australia, but her father, who wanted a boy, shows no interest. The two meet at a matchmaking event. Barath, Shruthi's younger cousin, accidentally locks a door that often jams, and they are stuck in the same room. To pass the time, they discuss their past. Shruthi says she was in love with Arjun and they planned a food truck business. Karthik says he was unemployed, made cooking videos with Sathya and Faizal, then prank videos, until his father caught them.

- The original film was based on the life of Siddhanth, the owner of the barbecue food truck Spitfire BBQ. Harish Kalyan learnt cooking from him to prepare for his role as a chef in the remake, and the team also approached him to play a minor role.
- Gautham Vasudev Menon chose Vishnu Vishal and Tamannaah Bhatia as the lead actors of the project in March 2017, but the start of filming was repeatedly delayed, Vishnu Vishal opted out by December, and it was dropped due to budget constraints.
- Oh Manapenne! finished shooting in February 2020, a week before India's COVID-19 lockdown was declared. Director Kaarthikk Sundar said the lockdown only helped, as the team could patiently edit and get it done.
