- M. Manikandan approached Rajinikanth to play the octogenarian farmer in Kadaisi Vivasayi, but the veteran actor turned the part down; he then cast a real farmer, Nallandi, whom he found in Perungamanallur near Madurai and who completed his portions but died shortly before the film's release.
- Manikandan first signed Ilaiyaraaja to score the film; unhappy with the music, he asked for it to be reworked, Ilaiyaraaja refused and was replaced by Santhosh Narayanan, and Ilaiyaraaja complained to the Music Composer's Association before the matter was settled amicably.
- Before shooting Kadaisi Vivasayi, director M. Manikandan visited more than 100 villages to check out filming locations, a search that alone took over a year.
