Plot summary
Buster is a mountain man who hides from the authorities. In a remote community, he makes it through winter by breaking into empty vacation homes. He phones radio talk shows to warn that an inversion is coming at the turn of the millennium. He is troubled by visions of himself lost at sea and by memories of his earlier life. That life included a job as a hotel concierge, a marriage to Marty, and a daughter. A chance meeting with Brown, a drifter obsessed with conspiracies, altered its course.
