Plot summary
Max Grabelski is a deliveryman who brings packages to the millionaire Reinhart Bragdon and earns fifty-dollar tips. A late-night delivery takes him to a fire at Bragdon's mansion, where the FBI agent Palmer corners him. Max ends up with the agent's gun and gets away. On the news, Palmer says Bragdon died in the blaze and blames Max for setting it to silence him about a money-laundering scheme. Hunted, Max calls his boss and learns that a last package must go to Bragdon at his cabin on Devil's Peak. At a mountain store, the clerk and scoutmaster Jack Erickson knows his face, so Max takes Erickson's van. A group of Ranger Scouts, five boys and one girl, takes him for the scoutmaster sent to lead their hike, and Max plays along to keep heading for Devil's Peak.
