Plot summary
Dave and Alvin Firpo are New York convicts, paroled early at Christmas and handed to their younger brother Bill, who manages a restaurant and has stayed honest. Dave is the clever one and Alvin a kleptomaniac. The two want a ride to Paradise, Pennsylvania, where they say a fellow inmate needs a favor done, and Bill refuses at first because they are not allowed out of the state. He changes his mind and drives them there. In Paradise they find a bank with little security, and Bill agrees to join the robbery, with a snowstorm closing in on the town.
