Plot summary
Mike Burden grew up an orphan inside the Ku Klux Klan in Laurens, South Carolina. He helps open the Redneck Shop, a Klan storefront and museum in the town, and it is there that he falls in love with Judy, a single mother with a son. Judy wants the two of them, and her boy, to have a better life, and she urges Mike to leave the Klan behind. When the Klan comes after him for turning his back on it, Reverend Kennedy, who leads a Black Baptist congregation in Laurens, and his church agree to shelter Mike, Judy and her son.
