Plot summary
During World War I, the German spy Franz Strendler has cost Britain dearly, and London sends for its own best agent, at work undercover in Germany. Frank Bennett, a pilot, is sent to collect the agent, but the Germans have been warned and shoot his plane down. Bennett survives and recovers in a hospital, where the nurse Helene von Lorbeer cares for him; he declares his love for her, and she replies that she is leaving. She is in fact a German agent, summoned home for an award from the Kaiser and for a new assignment. Posing as a refugee called Frances Hawtrey, she enters the London house of Arthur Bennett, a cabinet minister, and is to send secret war plans to Germany with another agent placed there.
