Plot summary
In 1944, a German agent living undercover in England kills with a stiletto and is nicknamed the Needle. He uncovers the Allied deception meant to hide that the invasion of Europe will come through Normandy and not Pas de Calais, where the German High Command expects it. MI5, aware that this knowledge could wreck D-Day, closes in, and with no way to send the news home he makes for Scotland to meet a U-boat. Fierce weather leaves him on Storm Island, where Lucy lives with her husband David, a former RAF pilot left paralyzed by a car crash on their wedding day, their son Jo, and Tom, the lighthouse keeper who keeps the island's radio. Lucy, unhappy in her marriage, is drawn to the castaway, who claims to be a lost sailor.
