Plot summary
U.S. Marine Ray Garrison leads a hostage rescue in Mombasa and then travels with his wife Gina to a beachside town on the Amalfi Coast. Mercenaries led by Martin Axe seize the couple and demand to know how the military found the hostages; when Ray says he lacks that information, Axe kills Gina and then Ray. Ray wakes with no memory in the laboratories of Rising Spirit Technologies in Kuala Lumpur. Lead scientist Dr. Emil Harting tells him he is the first human subject of the Bloodshot program, kept alive by experimental nanites that now replace his blood, granting him great strength and rapid healing but requiring regular replacement and recharging. Ray meets Harting's other patients, including former Navy diver KT, Marcus Tibbs and Jimmy Dalton. Flashbacks of Gina and Axe send him out of the facility.

- Valiant Comics CEO and Chief Creative Officer Shamdasani said Ken Watanabe would play the Harbinger villain Toyo Harada in a post credit scene, but because of a change of copyright it was not possible to film the cameo.
- In July 2017 it was reported that Jared Leto was in early negotiations to star in the film as Bloodshot, but in March 2018 it was announced that Vin Diesel would portray the main character instead.
