Plot summary
Tyler Laird brings Natalie, his girlfriend, to the Pacific Northwest for a camping trip he means to turn into a marriage proposal. A slow knock sounds from the trees in the night, and while Tyler goes to look, an unseen creature drags Natalie into the forest. Twelve months later, Tyler leaves Cowlitz County Psych Ward with his mother, Rita Laird, who hands him the belongings recovered from the campsite, including his camera. Going through the photographs, he notices a huge shape in the background. With Rita's blessing he drives back to the woods, carrying a hunting rifle and camping gear. There he finds signs claiming the land for Xylon Incorporated and warning against trespassing, and a massive footprint pressed into the mud.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Big Legend (2018)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Writer/director Justin Lee shot Big Legend in the Pacific Northwest, where nearly a week into filming the state was hit by its biggest snowstorm in 30 years, which buried the area under as much as two feet of snow overnight. The storm forced Lee to work the snow into the script.
- Lee wanted practical effects and described Big Legend as a one-man hunt story similar to Predator, but he modeled the Sasquatch on Jaws, using Spielberg's trick of not revealing the monster in full until the film's climax.
- Tyler's mother was not in the original script of Big Legend; Lee added the part after deciding the story needed something to help viewers relate to Tyler, and cast Adrienne Barbeau in it because of her performances on Carnivàle.
- Lee cast Kevin Makely in Big Legend because of their longtime friendship, and said Makely wanted the role largely because of his personal belief in Bigfoot.
