Plot summary
Axel Foley is a Detroit police detective. A chase after thieves causes costly damage, and Deputy Chief Jeffrey Friedman retires to spare him punishment. Jeffrey encourages Axel to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Jane Saunders, a Los Angeles defense attorney. Billy Rosewood, now a private investigator after resigning from the force and quarreling with his former partner John Taggart, telephones Axel to warn that Jane is in danger. Rosewood has been helping Jane represent Sam Enriquez, framed in the murder of Officer Copeland, who was undercover. Axel returns to Beverly Hills when Rosewood does not answer his calls.

- Eddie Murphy said one of his reasons for making a fourth Beverly Hills Cop film was to make up for the third one, which he called "horrible", because he did not want to leave the series on that note.
- Paul Reiser and John Ashton were confirmed in August 2022 to reprise their roles as Jeffrey Friedman and John Taggart, returning to them 37 years after their performances in Beverly Hills Cop II.
- Additional filming took place in Detroit in late 2022 without Eddie Murphy traveling there, and a December 3 NHL game between the Red Wings and the Vegas Golden Knights at Little Caesars Arena served as the backdrop for the prologue, though the team locker room in the film was a set.
- Because it reuses most of the music from the first two films, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F became the first film in the franchise without an album of the songs heard in it, but Lil Nas X wrote an original song, "Here We Go!", released as a single on June 28, 2024.
- A promo featuring the animated character Crazy Frog was released to promote the film; Crazy Frog had previously released a cover of the franchise's theme song, "Axel F", in 2005.
