Plot summary
Barb and Star are middle-aged best friends in Soft Rock, Nebraska, and neither has ever left town. They travel to Vista Del Mar, Florida, uneasy about trying anything new, and invent the story of Trish, a woman who becomes a water spirit. Checking into the Vista Del Mar Hotel, they resolve to try many excursions, especially the inflatable banana inner tube ride. Sharon Fisherman, who grew up in the town, was bullied there for her pale skin and sensitivity to the sun, and now plots to release lethal mosquitos on its residents. Her henchman Edgar is sent to plant a homing beacon that will draw the mosquitos in, and she promises that if he succeeds their relationship will become official. Barb and Star meet Edgar at the hotel bar and party with him.
