Plot summary
Detective Mike Lowrey marries his physical therapist, Christine. At the reception, his partner Marcus Burnett has a heart attack and ends up in a coma; when he wakes, he believes that he cannot die. Meanwhile, conspirators have forced a Miami money launderer to move a large sum into the account of the late Captain Conrad Howard and fabricated transaction records, and news reports link Howard to a cartel. Mike and Marcus set out to prove that Howard was innocent, with help from Captain Rita Secada and her boyfriend, the mayoral candidate Adam Lockwood. In prison, Mike's son Armando Aretas, jailed for Howard's death, says the captain was not corrupt but knew who was, and was killed to keep those secrets. Armando agrees to help identify the killer.

- Development of the fourth Bad Boys film was reportedly put on hold in April 2022 after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony. The next month, Sony chairman Tom Rothman said the film was still in development.
- Even though Captain Conrad Howard was killed off early in the previous film, Joe Pantoliano returned as the character because Will Smith insisted on bringing him back.
- Principal photography on Bad Boys: Ride or Die began on April 3, 2023, in Atlanta and Miami, and was suspended that July because of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
