Plot summary
Susan Matthews-Loomis, a paleontologist, and her husband George Loomis travel into Central Africa to gather evidence of a monster the local people call Mokele-mbembe, a creature described as resembling a sauropod dinosaur. Deep in the jungle the couple comes upon living brontosaurus that show almost no fear of people. They watch the animals and grow attached to the young one, nicknamed Baby. The find puts the dinosaurs at risk. Dr. Eric Kiviat, a fellow scientist, sees them as his route to fame and fortune, while Colonel Nsogbu and the African military regard them as a threat and set out to destroy them. Susan and George try to keep Baby and the adult brontosaurus safe.
