Hugh Quarshie
Biography
Hugh Quarshie is a British actor who was born in Accra, Ghana, and moved to the United Kingdom as a child. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1981, became an associate in 2005, and has played many stage roles, including Aaron the Moor in the BBC Television Shakespeare production of Titus Andronicus. On television he is known for Ric Griffin on the medical drama Holby City from 2001 to 2020 and for Solomon in a 2007 two-part Doctor Who story. His films include Highlander (1986), Nightbreed (1990), Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) as Captain Panaka, Wing Commander (1999) as Lieutenant Obutu, and The Church (1989), which he led as Father Gus. He has also narrated documentaries. His honors include an Olivier Award nomination in 1987, a BAFTA Television nomination in 2022 for Stephen, a Critics' Circle award and an Emmy.
