Plot summary
A drilling accident on a small island in a lake sends the rig through the lake floor and lets a prehistoric megalodon loose, and the malfunction sets off an explosion. The shark eats two girls, then goes after a boat carrying the art thieves Barb, Rich, Doug, Jerry and Jack. Jack is taken and the rest get ashore, though the painting they were carrying lands in the water. Jerry goes back in for it and does not come out. Four college students, Jill, Tia, Kristen and Mike, are heading for the same island because Jill wants to see the rig for an essay on pollution. The shark hits their boat and Mike dies; Jill, Tia and Kristen make it to shore. The two groups meet, and the thieves say they are tourists. Everyone stays the night on the island.
