Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Shot over four years in Denver and Arvada, Colorado, the film's tiny budget caused trouble: directors Richard Taylor and Zack Beins had to re-shoot large portions after a main actor quit and was recast, and shot in five different bowling alleys while hunting affordable locations.
- The film was shot in high-definition video, but neither director owned an HD camera: Zack Beins and Richard Taylor found a friend who did and gave him an acting role in exchange for the use of his camera.
- The film's theme song was written and recorded by Orange County comedy punk band The Radioactive Chicken Heads; it also appears on their 2009 rarities album Poultry Uprising and in a 16-bit remix on their 2013 video game Badd Bunny Breakout.
- Atom the Amazing Zombie Killer was the first feature-length film from Denver-based company Bizjack Flemco and its directors Zack Beins and Richard Taylor, whose previous work included the 2007 short The Misled Romance of Cannibal Girl & Incest Boy and effects for Troma's Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead.
- To help finance the film, directors Zack Beins and Richard Taylor shot a fake trailer to drum up interest and hosted several benefit concerts with local bands.
