Plot summary
Alex, a high school senior, meets Sean again at a party. He is an old friend, and he writes his phone number on her arm before she leaves with her boyfriend for a nighttime swim. Lights appear in the sky and in the water, and Alex is next seen walking along a road, unable to recall who she is. She telephones Sean, who brings her to his house and lets her sleep. The following day lights flicker, a knife floats in the air, and his catatonic grandmother is suddenly alert. Driving Alex home, Sean is pushed from a second story window, and both of them stop in midair before hitting the ground. An organization tracks the electromagnetic energy Alex releases, and Cal, a former scientist, reaches them first.
