Plot summary
Chrissa Maxwell, ten years old, moves with her mother, father and older brother from Iowa to Minnesota so the family can live closer to her grandmother, Louise Hanlon, after her grandfather's death. At her new school she hopes to make friends, but Tara James, Sonali Matthews and Jayden Johnson, three girls known as the Mean Bees, pick on her from her first day. Chrissa keeps the bullying to herself, afraid that telling would make her a tattletale, and signs up for the school swim team, where her brother Tyler also swims.
