Mitzi Hoag
Biography
Mitzi Hoag was an American actress who appeared in more than 73 television shows and movies. She grew up in North Olmsted, Ohio, and earned her degree at Shimer College in 1952 before two years of drama study at Case Western Reserve. In the mid-1950s she moved to New York to study with Herbert Berghof, and after off-Broadway productions fell apart for lack of money she took the leading part in Heloise, an off-Broadway success in 1958. In Hollywood she played Annie Sullivan in a stage production of The Miracle Worker, which led to screen work beginning with Tammy and the Doctor. She had recurring roles in Here Come the Brides, Bonanza and The Partridge Family, and a long run on The Facts of Life as Natalie Green's adoptive mother, and in 1975 she took her only starring series role, as Liz Platt in the CBS sitcom We'll Get By. Her films included Play It as It Lays (1972).

Big break
Hoag played Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker on stage, and that success led to screen work. Her first movie role was in Tammy and the Doctor, followed by many TV appearances.
First role
Hoag took the title role in Heloise, a 1958 off-Broadway hit. James Forsyth adapted the story of Heloise and Abelard, and the play, which earned considerable critical acclaim, was produced primarily by former actors and staffers of Case Western's Eldred Theatre.
A first
In 1952, at age 19, Hoag received a bachelor's degree from Shimer. She belonged to the first five Shimer students to earn that degree, and no other woman was in her graduating class.
