Plot summary
A night at a club brings Michael Galloway, an SAS lieutenant, together with his friends Vincent and Robin, and Robin proposes to Dana, his girlfriend. Michael leaves with a woman named Carrie. At Robin's house the following day, none of the phones, televisions or radios work. Michael and Carrie stumble outside, where a tramp warns them about people who carry a purple mark. When an earthquake shakes the house the next morning, the group goes outside and sees a city-sized spaceship above Derby. The group heads to a local store for supplies, with help from Michael's friend Pete. Two looters lie in wait, and Michael drives them off with a pistol.
