Plot summary
In 2142, a Weyland-Yutani probe hauls a cocoon out of the remains of the USCSS Nostromo. Months afterward, at the Jackson's Star mining colony on LV-410, a planet with no daylight, Rain Carradine learns that the company has forced an extension of her work contract. She decides to leave, and with Andy, a malfunctioning android her late father reprogrammed as her brother, she boards the hauler Corbelan IV. With them are Tyler, her former boyfriend, Kay, who is Tyler's sister and pregnant, Bjorn, their cousin, and Navarro, Bjorn's adopted sister. They mean to take cryostasis equipment from Renaissance, a station that appears abandoned and is divided into the modules Romulus and Remus, for the nine-year voyage to Yvaga III, a planet unaffiliated with Weyland-Yutani.

- Digitally recreating the late Ian Holm for the film drew a backlash, and Álvarez compared it to actors wearing prosthetics to portray historical figures, such as Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.
- The android Rook was created by Legacy Effects as an animatronic head and torso built from a headscan Holm made during The Lord of the Rings, with CGI and deepfake AI used to polish some shots.
- Alongside its Blu-ray and DVD release, the film got a limited VHS release, making it the first Alien installment on the format since Alien vs. Predator (2004) and the first major Hollywood film on VHS since 2006.
- The Xenomorphs were given serrated, shark-like skin so it looked as if they could cut someone just by being touched, while still resembling H. R. Giger's original Alien design.
- A piece of time-lapse security footage showing a rat being crushed and then regenerated was made as stop-motion animation by Phil Tippett, while Filmefex Studios handled the film's dead bodies and prosthetic makeup.
- The pregnancy of the character Kay was inspired by Dina from The Last of Us Part II, who would later be played by the same actress, because Álvarez was playing the game while writing the film.
- Benjamin Wallfisch's score reuses themes and cues from Alien by Jerry Goldsmith, Aliens by James Horner and Prometheus by Harry Gregson-Williams, and includes Wagner's "Entry of the Gods into Valhalla" from Das Rheingold.
