Plot summary
After a rescue goes wrong, pet detective Ace Ventura retreats to a monastery in Tibet, where explorer Fulton Greenwall arrives with a job. The sacred white bat Shikaka has vanished from the Wachati tribe in the East African country of Nibia, and Greenwall says the tribe's peace with its rivals the Wachootoo depends on the bat's return and on the marriage of the Wachati princess to the Wachootoo prince. Ace meets Nibia's consul, Vincent Cadby, then joins the Wachati, whose chief, his son Ouda and the princess welcome him. The Wachootoo take the newcomer for the White Devil, and Ace's own fear of bats stands in his way.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Because the first film's success gave Jim Carrey the power to choose the director, Carrey had original director Tom DeCerchio replaced with screenwriter Steve Oedekerk in April 1995; he also turned down an interested Spike Jonze, a decision he later called one of his biggest regrets.
- Jim Carrey's absences from the set pushed the production behind schedule during shooting in June 1995 in South Carolina and the following month outside Hondo, near San Antonio, Texas.
