Plot summary
Mark Putnam is a newly married FBI agent posted to a field office in an Appalachian town in Kentucky. Susan Smith is a drug addict in Pikeville who lives with her abusive boyfriend, Cash, and her two children. Putnam recruits her as his informant on a high-profile case, and she sees in him a chance to escape her circumstances. She becomes his star informant. The two grow closer, the relationship turns into an affair, and the risk to them both grows.
