About a Boy (2002) on Netflix

Plot summary

Will Freeman lives in London on the royalties of a Christmas song his father wrote, avoiding work and commitment. After a fling with a single mother, he joins a single parents group by pretending to have a young son. There he meets Suzie, and through her, Marcus, a twelve-year-old with no friends at school and a depressed mother, Fiona. Bullied for his odd manner, Marcus decides his mother needs a boyfriend. He arranges a lunch between Will and Fiona, though Will has no interest in her. Marcus keeps seeking Will out, and the two begin spending time together, with Will buying him new shoes for school.
