Biography

Born in Anoka, Minnesota, Garrison Keillor is an American radio personality, author, humorist, and voice actor who began broadcasting on his college radio station and joined Minnesota Public Radio in 1969. He created and hosted A Prairie Home Companion, a live variety show that ran from 1974 to 2016 and featured his monologues about the fictional town of Lake Wobegon, along with characters such as the detective Guy Noir. He also created the daily program The Writer's Almanac. His books include Lake Wobegon Days, and he won a Grammy for his recording of it. He wrote and played himself in Robert Altman's film A Prairie Home Companion (2006), and he voiced historical figures in Ken Burns's documentary series The Civil War. Honors include a Peabody Award, induction into the National Radio Hall of Fame, and a National Humanities Medal.
