Plot summary
Faye spends her days at a campsite beside a lake in the mountains of Colorado. She is waiting for Lito, a friend from her childhood, and has no way of knowing when he will arrive or what he looks like now. To fill the hours she watches birds, studies the stars and meets the guests at the other campsites: a polite group of siblings who want her to move so they can dig up their father's coffin and rebury him somewhere else, and an engaged couple who invite her to dinner, where one of the women, Jan, asks her whether marriage is worth it.
