Plot summary
In Santa Barbara, teenager Carol Pringle tells her friend Judy Foster that bandleader Xavier Cugat is to be honored at their school dance. Carol persuades her younger brother Oogie to cancel his date with Judy, arguing that women like men who ignore them. When Judy finds out, she is furious and breaks off the friendship. She visits Pop Sam Scully's drugstore and meets his nephew Stephen Andrews, who offers to take her. At the dance, Oogie becomes jealous of Stephen and tries to pull Judy's attention away, but Stephen dances with Carol.
