Plot summary

Frank Faust drives a cab. At his tenth-year school reunion he scares his girlfriend Jennifer König off, though he never meant to. She leaves for Munich. A year later, Frank has not recovered and tries to take his own life. A stranger appears at that moment and offers a pact: Frank's soul in exchange for a scheme that brings Jennifer back. Frank agrees, and the stranger, who calls himself Mephisto, explains that the Mephistos have always come to the aid of the Fausts. To draw Jennifer's attention to Frank, Mephisto takes the shape of well-known contemporaries and appears beside Frank at parties, praising him.
