Plot summary
In the 1960s Romano Amato and his wife Rosa emigrate from Solino, a village in Abruzzo, to Duisburg in the Ruhr area with their sons Giancarlo and Gigi. Romano decides to open a pizzeria, and he and Rosa agree to name it Solino after the village they left. The restaurant does well, the boys grow used to Germany, and in time both take jobs in the family business. A hostile relationship grows between Romano and his sons as they work together. When Giancarlo and Gigi are grown, they move out of the family apartment and share a flat with their childhood friend Johanna.
