Plot summary
On the Fourth of July, Katie is setting up a surprise party for her boyfriend Jack while her parents and friends help, and she tries to keep everything on schedule. She goes out for the cake and stops on the way to collect her brother Seth and his two-year-old daughter Ella. Seth is a heroin user, and the detox center he attended before will not take his health insurance. Katie drives around Los Angeles with Ella in the car, looking for a facility that will admit him, and has visions of Seth and herself drowning as water fills the car.
