Plot summary
Three years have passed since Adrian Lester last visited his family in Dallas, and he returns at Christmas in 1985. He works as an advertising executive in New York City. He is gay and has never told his mother Eileen, his father Dale or his brother Andrew, and Andrew is angry that he has stayed away so long. Adrian is also dying of AIDS, and he has come home to say goodbye rather than to tell them anything. Over the holiday he spends a great deal on gifts and travel tickets for the family, which astonishes his father, and he seeks out Carly, a friend from his past.
