Plot summary
In the future, the Sentinels have driven mutants, and the humans who shelter them, to the brink of extinction. Kitty Pryde can send a mind back through time, and Charles Xavier proposes using her ability to reach 1973, the year the Sentinel program took shape. The trip would kill him, so Logan goes in his place, his healing factor strong enough to endure it. He wakes in 1973 and finds the X-Mansion shuttered, with Hank McCoy explaining that a defeated Charles lives in seclusion, taking a serum that quiets his telepathy. Logan needs the professor's help to find Raven and stop her from shooting Bolivar Trask, the weapons designer behind the machines, and he must free Erik Lehnsherr from a prison beneath the Pentagon. In the future, Kitty stays at his side, holding his mind in the past.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Jennifer Lawrence had skin irritations from the full body make-up in First Class, so for Days of Future Past the process changed to a bodysuit from the neck down, its zipper digitally removed afterward. The make-up process went from eight hours to three.
- Halle Berry's pregnancy limited her role as Storm in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and according to writer Simon Kinberg, another scene she had was cut because of her limited schedule.
- Anna Paquin's role as Rogue was reduced to a cameo in X-Men: Days of Future Past after most of her scenes were cut, but the scenes were later restored on an alternate version released to home media. Kinberg said the subplot was to give the elder Magneto and Xavier a mission, but it was felt not to serve the main story.
- Kelsey Grammer makes an uncredited cameo as Beast in the future setting of X-Men: Days of Future Past. He called director Bryan Singer to ask about returning as Beast and was flown from New York in secret.
- X-Men: Days of Future Past was the first X-Men film to be shot in native 3D, using Arri Alexa-M cameras with Leica Prime lenses and Fujinon Zoom lenses, along with 3ality Technica TS-35 camera rigs and Stereo Image Processor technology.
- The Quicksilver Pentagon kitchen sequence in X-Men: Days of Future Past required nearly seven months of work from a team of 70 artists at Rising Sun Pictures, despite consisting of only 29 effects shots. The sequence involved a LIDAR scan of the set and computer-generated props rendered in near microscopic detail.
- John Ottman worked on the score of X-Men: Days of Future Past and was its editor. He had scored X2 before, so he became the first composer to score more than one X-Men film, and he reused themes from X2, including the title theme.
