Plot summary
The Djinn, an evil spirit who grants wishes, is freed when Diana Collins, a studious teenager at Illinois' Baxter University, opens a box with a jewel in it. When Professor Joel Barash asks to be the wisher instead, the Djinn grants his wish for two women to love him and then takes on the professor's identity. He pulls Diana's student file to track her down, since he needs her to make three wishes. Diana goes on the run and searches for a way to stop the Djinn from bringing Hell's wrath down on the world, while her boyfriend Greg and her friends Katie and Billy are drawn into his hunt.

- Andrew Divoff, who played the Djinn in the first two Wishmaster films, wrote his own script for a third, Wishmaster: The Third Millennium, built on Y2K paranoia with an opening in which an American warship is hit by a missile in Asia. Lions Gate rejected it as financially unfeasible and Divoff left the series on good terms.
